Help the Helpers: #GivingTuesday

Giving back is important to us, and we hope it is to you too! We've compiled a list of local and national organizations that we love to support. Whether we've personally been impacted by the work they do or know of someone who has benefited from their services, these places are close to our heart.

CASA

Champaign County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) recruits, trains, and monitors volunteers who advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers work through the juvenile court system to facilitate prompt delivery of services and make independent recommendations to the court concerning the child’s well-being.

Coaches vs. Cancer The Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, unites coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer.

 Crisis Nursery

Crisis Nursery creates an "Island of Safety" dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by providing 24-hour emergency care for children and support to strengthen families in crisis. Crisis Nursery is the only emergency-based childcare facility in Champaign County that is open 24 hours, 365 days a year for the entire community to access with no fees or income eligibility.

 CU Canteen Run

Volunteers go out 4 times/week to feed the homeless and those living at or below poverty level.  They provide shirts, blankets, underwear, socks, toiletries, and in the winter offer coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.  They also provide prayer and information on where they can get help for those using their services.

 Girls Go For It

Develops the leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit and professional abilities of young girls through building confidence, knowledge and creating opportunity.

 Illini Land FCA

To see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. To lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.

 Merci’s Refuge

Merci's Refuge is a 6-12 month Christian residential counseling program for adult women seeking freedom from various life-controlling issues that keep them from experiencing joy and accomplishing their goals.  These issues often stem from past trauma and include things like depression, anxiety, addictions, unhealthy relationships, unplanned pregnancies, unstable income and housing, and involvement with the child welfare system. 

Salt & Light

The mission of Salt & Light is to share the love of God by fighting poverty with opportunities that empower people for lasting change. The vision of Salt & Light is to see each person growing in their God-given potential.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospita The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
Tunnel to Towers The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. They also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The university enhances the lives of citizens in Illinois, across the nation and around the world through leadership in learning, discovery, engagement and economic development.
Wounded Warriors Every warrior has a next mission. Transitioning to civilian life is a journey. And for every warrior, family member, and caregiver, that journey looks different. Wounded Warriors is there for their first step, and each step that follows. Every warrior should have a positive future to look forward to. There’s always another goal to achieve, another mission to discover.

Giving Tuesday is a national day celebrated across the U.S. on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to encourage acts of generosity during the holidays.
